Services for Architects

Architects can translate a homeowner’s wishes and requirements into a functional and aesthetically pleasing design that will meet the homeowner’s needs well into the future. Their training and experience give them the tools to provide the homeowner with a truly custom design. However, sometimes architects need structural engineering assistance to make their design a reality.

RJD Residential understands that every residential project is different and can offer architects with the specific scope of services they need to complete the design of each project. In most cases, the following scopes of services for design can be provided for a fixed fee with construction phase services provided for additional fees:

Plan Review:
  • Review structural information shown on the architect’s plans, confirm design with prescriptive reference standards and identify elements and systems warranting engineering design.
  • Provide comments and markups as appropriate.
  • Appropriate for prescriptively-designed conventional construction, including simple custom homes.
Limited Structural Design:
  • Perform structural design calculations for discrete elements or systems identified by the architect as requiring engineering design.
  • Provide structural design information the architect by means of drawing markups and sketches for incorporation into their drawings.
  • Appropriate for custom homes with non-prescriptive elements and systems.
Complete Structural Design:
  • Beginning with architectural plans or preliminary framing plans, perform structural design for all elements of the roof, floor, wall and foundation, as well as project-specific connection details.
  • Provide structural design information the architect by means of drawing markups and sketches for incorporation into their drawings.
  • If requested, prepare structural plans and specification sealed by a professional engineer.
Specialty Engineering Services:

  • Retaining walls.
